DL tames Rebels
Six Detroit Lakes boys' basketball players hit double digits in the scoring column as the Lakers pulled away from visiting Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Thursday for a 73-56 victory.
The Lakers were able to work the inside early, as junior post Josh Stalberger knocked down five shots from inside the paint to help open up the perimeter later.
It didn't matter where the Rebels focused their defense, it wasn't enough, as Stalberger found open shooters who sunk their shots home.
"The guys played unselfish ball and we were able to push the ball up the floor and gain some easy transition buckets," said DL head coach Rob Flint.
One of the benefactors of Stalberger's early success in the lane was point guard Connor Hedstrom, who had some open floor beyond the three-point arc. The junior Laker netted four three pointers to finish with 15 points.
Stalberger had all 11 of his points in the first half, while senior forward Alex Guetter had 11 from inside the paint as well.
The Lakers made seven three's for the game, as Tyler Fode notched two to key his 10 points.
Brian Labat also found some room inside, finishing with 10 points.
In the second half, DL separated from the Rebels by shooting 57 percent from the floor.
"A lot of that had to do with the fact we were pushing the ball up and getting easy layups," Flint said. "We had at least 20 points off of layups."
DL (9-11) will host Bemidji (11-7) Tuesday. The Lumberjacks are in the midst of a three-game losing streak, but hold a 66-52 win over the Lakers from earlier this season.
