DL teen sentenced to detention center for burglary, ATV theft
A Detroit Lakes teenager was adjudicated delinquent and sentenced Thursday in Becker County District Court, on felony charges of third degree burglary and motor vehicle theft.
Justin Scott Lee Stallman, 18, of 23883 Broadway Ave., Detroit Lakes, was sentenced to be confined to a Moorhead juvenile detention facility, but that sentence was stayed on conditions.
Those conditions include supervised probation until his 19th birthday, completion of 32 hours of community service, continued counseling and outpatient chemical dependency treatment, and no consumption of alcohol or mood-altering substances.
Stallman was accused of taking an ATV from inside a Detroit Lakes welding business on April 17.
According to the criminal complaint, the theft was discovered after an employee noticed that the door of the building had been left open, and several sets of footprints and tire tracks were found inside.
The employees also said that Stallman had stopped by the business earlier in the day, and a witness later came forward to say that he had driven him to the business before later dropping him off at the mall downtown.
Stallman was spotted the next day riding an ATV on State Highway 87, where the vehicle was stopped by a state trooper for operating on a state highway.
