DL U-18 softball heads into playoffs
The Detroit Lakes U-18 softball team will carry the No. 4 seed with a 9-3 regular season record into the Prairie Lakes League tournament, which will be Monday in Hawley, starting at 9 a.m.
Kathryn Kinney leads the team with a .445 batting average, while Amanda Young has a .440 average and three home runs.
Chaz Butz recorded a 7-1 record from the mound during the regular season.
The U-14 team finished with a 6-2 mark and earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament, which will be Tuesday in Hawley at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
If either team advances out of the league playoffs, they will qualify for the ASA State Tournament. The U-18 state will be in St. Cloud July 20-23, while the U-14 state is in Buffalo July 27-29.
The leading hitters for the U-14 team were Kyra Vagle with a .667 average and three homers and Hailey Sonstegard at .430 and two home runs.
Vagle also had four wins as a pitcher, while Emma McGuire earned two.
