DL volleyball loses a close one to EGF
It was an up and down affair for both teams, as the visiting East Grand Forks Green Wave narrowly escaped with a 3-2 victory over host Detroit Lakes Tuesday.
The Lakers were strong in the early going, winning 25-23, but the Green Wave responded with a 25-9 victory.
From there on, it went back and forth with a DL 25-15 win, which was proceeded by an EGF 25-17 triumph to force the decisive game five.
The final game typified how the entire match was played, as both teams made intense rallies, but ultimately won by EGF 15-12.
“Both teams had three real good games and two real down games,” said DL head coach Jim Wood. “We came out strong and had a very good performance in game one, with serve receive and attacking a strong point.”
The Lakers’ momentum was staved off in game too, as DL struggled with their passing, by in game three, Shay Nielsen’s strong hitting from the outside paced the win.
“It was a fun game to watch (game five), with both teams playing offensively and defensively very well,” Wood added.
The Lakers (8-7) fell to Thief River Falls (9-2-2) by the scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-21.
DL will host Pequot Lakes (9-2) in a crucial Mid-State game, with both teams undefeated in the conference.
The Lakers hold a 3-0 Mid-State record, while Pequot Lakes is 2-0.
