DLMS students perform in Honor Band
Six Detroit Lakes Middle School Band students recently performed in the Northwest Regional 6-8 Honor Band.
The event was hosted by the Minnesota Band Directors Association and was held at the Fergus Falls Secondary School on Saturday, Jan. 18.
Because of the high quality of the nominations this year, two 6-8 Honor Band ensembles performed. Performing in the Yellow Honor Band were Detroit Lakes 8th Grade Band students Mariah Marks Erickson, clarinet, Jacob Retz, tuba, and Ella Henderson, percussion.
Performing in the Blue Honor Band were Sophia Johnson, clarinet, Catherine Jaroszewski, bari-sax; and Natalie Nelmark, percussion.
The students were selected from hundreds of nominations from numerous middle school band programs in greater northwest Minnesota.
The two honor bands were under the capable direction of two veteran Minnesota band directors. Tim Diem from the University Of Minnesota conducted the Yellow Honor Band, and Peter Haberman from Concordia Moorhead, conducted the Blue Honor Band.
The day consisted of several rehearsals in preparation of the Grand Concert in the evening.
The Detroit Lakes Middle School Band students are students of middle school band director Paul Dierkhising.
