Twelve teams will participate in the weekend tournament that begins at 2 p.m. Friday, and ends with the Championship game at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

All of the 26 tournament games will be played at the Kent Freeman Arena in Detroit Lakes.

"PeeWee-level hockey is exciting to watch, because the players really have a passion for the game and have fairly well-developed skills," said Youth Hockey Director for the DLYHA, Chris Denardo.

With an average of 14 players per team, the total number of PeeWees participating in the tournament is 168.

Players are 11-13 years old and for many families with PeeWee-level players, tournaments become a weekend family event.

Teams include the Detroit Lakes Lakers, Bismarck Admirals, Fargo Flyers, Proctor Rails, Bismarck Blades, Prairie Center North Stars, Wadena Wolverines, Jamestown-Valley City Prowl, Mandan Black, River Lake Stars, Crookston and International Falls.

The Detroit Lakes PeeWee A team has a win-loss-tie record of 9-2-0 so far this year and looks forward to an exciting weekend playing against teams from outside its Minnesota Hockey District.

"It's a good experience playing teams from other areas, because you don't know what to expect," said coach Cory Solberg. "You really have to come together as a team and focus on playing your game."
