Do you care about the lakes? Water Plan update subject of June 23 Otter Tail meeting
A public hearing will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23 in the Commissioner's Room at the Otter Tail County Government Services Center 500 Fir Ave. W., Fergus Falls for the purpose of hearing comments on the update of the Otter Tail County Local Water Management Plan.
The purpose of the Local Water Management Plan is to evaluate the quality of our surface and ground water resources and identify the existing and potential hazard to these resources. The water plan committee asked for public input through a survey and public meeting facilitation process to identify and prioritize these local concerns. The respondents were asked what they considered the top four problems faced in Otter Tail County.
Based on responses, the task force decided that the top priority should be development pressure and the effects it has on our groundwater and surface water resources. A plan was then developed to address the current problems and prevent future problems.
The Local Water Management Plan will be available for public review prior to the meeting at: East Otter Tail SWCD, 801 Jenny Ave. SW, Suite 2, Perham, MN 56573; West Otter Tail SWCD, 506 Western Ave., Fergus Falls, MN and at the Otter Tail website at:http://www.co.ottertail.mn.us/lakes/default.php. The Local Water Management Plan taskforce will accept oral and written comments at the hearing and until July 24.
