The Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars is looking for sponsors for the 2014 scholarships.

Each year individuals and businesses have made donations to provide scholarships to local high school students. The awards go to students who attend and graduate from Detroit Lakes High School to assist with their post-secondary education.

Last year over $135,000 in scholarships were awarded.

Rising costs are closing doors to higher education for many individuals in the community. Through Dollars for Scholars there is an opportunity to make a strong, collective statement about the importance of education beyond high school. Donations provide both encouragement and financial support for local students.

The Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars program began in 1985. Permanent and annual scholarships have been added every year. A named endowment, given from an estate, will provide funds for DL students in perpetuity.

By helping the Detroit Lakes Dollars for Scholars, you become part of a worthwhile project that will play a vital role in educating our future workforce.

Information on sponsoring a scholarship is available by contacting Glenn Gifford at 218-847-4851 or Mark Hagen at 218-849-2294 or email mark@mbedl.com.

You can also mail donations to Dollars for Scholars, PO Box 989, Detroit Lakes, MN 56502.
