Donald F. Engleson, 86, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
There will be a graveside service including Military Honors at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 3 at Bakke Lutheran Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes. A Memorial Service will follow at 10 a.m. at Bakke Lutheran Church, with Reverend Ann Newgard-Larson officiating.
Donald Florian Engleson was born to Edward and Ales (Torgeson) Engleson on September 1, 1927 in Milan, Minn. He was raised in Rochert and graduated from Frazee High School in 1945.
Don served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Following his discharge, he returned to Rochert where he lived for a brief time prior to moving to Alaska. He later moved to Hibbing, where he married Darlene Bertilson on July 19, 1952. While in Hibbing, he drove a Euclid for Hanna Mining Co.
They moved to Park Rapids, where he worked as a carpenter. They moved to Salem, Ore., Mesa, Ariz., and then to Detroit Lakes.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, playing guitar - especially with The Old Time Country Bunch at many area nursing homes - making knives, reading and reloading bullets.
Survivors include his wife Dorene, of Detroit Lakes; four children, Gary (Joen) of Snoqualmie, Wash., Bradley (Terri) of Henderson, Tenn., Dawna Engleson of Salem, Ore., and Kathryn (Bruce) Miller of Salem, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother, Roger (Becky) of Fergus Falls; and one sister, Lois Freithem of Spokane, Wash.
Preceding him in death were a granddaughter, Jamie; his parents; two sisters, Marjorie and Anita; and a brother, Floyd.
