Nov. 16, 1921-Jan. 23, 2011
Former area resident Donna Livingood, 89, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011. Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 28 at Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater, Wash.
Donna was born on November 16, 1921 in Becker County. She lived on a farm in Callaway with her mother and three brothers, after the death of her father from appendicitis. For high school, she lived with her aunts in Mahnomen, where she worked part-time in their mercantile dry goods store. She then attended Moorhead State College and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse.
During World War II, Donna went to California for a summer with some girlfriends, and worked in an ice cream factory -- she loved to tell that story! She then returned to Minnesota to teach school, married Lester and started a family. Five children were born in Minnesota and one in Washington.
Donna was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Women's Circle and the Wedding Guild. Her hobbies included ceramics, knitting, crocheting, quilting, Garden Club, and playing cards with family.
Donna also worked with her husband for 17 years, driving mail trucks to Ocean Shores, Wash.; she loved her job!
After retirement, Donna and Lester traveled all over the United States and Canada in their motor home. Donna's pride and joy was her family -- kids and grandkids. One of the last things she said was, "I have a good family, a good family."
Surviving Donna are her husband of 64 years, Lester C. Livingood; children Lana, Ronald, Richard, Barbara and Betty; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brothers Waldo and Charles Johnson.
