Doris M. Kegel, 87, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services for Doris will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the Congregational Church-United Church of Christ, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
Doris Marie Herman was born to Beryl and Essie (Harman) Herman on January 17, 1925 in Bantry, N.D. She was raised and educated in Towner, ND graduating from Towner High School. Following high school, Doris attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. After college she was employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Fargo, where she worked for 13 years.
On December 17, 1957, Doris was united in marriage to Fred W. Kegel at the Presbyterian Church in Towner. They resided in Fargo and Grand Forks. In 1961, Doris and Fred moved to Detroit Lakes. Doris worked as the office manager for Fred's architectural firm for many years. Fred died on March 24, 1984 in Palm Springs, Calif.
Doris was a member of the Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes and a charter member of P.E.O. Doris and Fred enjoyed traveling. One of their fondest vacation memories was twice traveling to Europe. In 1986, Doris was able to visit Korea and Hawaii. Doris loved socializing with friends and family. They often met for Bridge Club and also for Birthday Club. In her younger years, Doris enjoyed cross country skiing and also enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Surviving Doris are one brother, Charlie (Lucille) Herman of Bismarck, N.D.; one sister, Dorothy (Aldon) Lazier of Riverside, Calif.; and brother-in-law Paul (Linda) Kegel of Fargo, along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Fred (1984); and sister, Bessie Hagar.
