June 16, 1929-Dec. 14, 2010
Dorothy Katherine Spry, 81, of Cashmere, Washington, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at Columbia View Assisted Living in East Wenatchee, Wash.
Dorothy had lived in Cashmere for 48 years and had been the owner and operator of an upholstery business. Her creative side extended into many areas, including watercolor artistry.
Dorothy was born on June 16, 1929 at Underwood, Minnesota and was raised, educated and worked in the Detroit Lakes area. She married Ervin Spry in Callaway. Following a time in Holden, Wash., they moved their family to the Cashmere area. She lived close to her parents outside of Cashmere.
Dorothy said that moving to the "orchard" country from Minnesota was a new way of living -- canning, drying and freezing the fruit that was so plentiful. She also grew and harvested a large garden and shared with others. There were many trips back to Minnesota, including Kugler Family Reunions at Phelps Mill.
Grandmother Dorothy always welcomed into her home sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved us all. We love you too, Dorothy.
Preceding her in death were husband Ervin (Bunt); brother Valarius Kugler; parents Lawrence and Dorothy (Zurn) Kugler; grandparents August and Katie Kugler; and grandparents Nicholas and Helena Zurn.
Survivors include her children, David Spry of Moses Lake, Daniel Spry of East Wenatchee, Darrell Spry of Cashmere Joseph Spry of Wenatchee Des Spry of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Evanell Wellings of Redwood City, Calif.; her brothers and sisters, Evanell Janousek of Rapid City, S.D., Elaine Mikkelsen Warhol of Mesa, Ariz., Valerie Fox of Port Angeles, Wash., Ernee McArthur of Minneapolis and August Kugler of Kennewick, Wash; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20 in Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, 145 Wheeler St., Leavenworth, Wash. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, and a Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Her final resting place will be Cashmere City Cemetery.
