Arts marketing seminar
On Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m. the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center will sponsor a workshop on using Etsy, an internet-based marketing initiative for artists and artisans. Etsy is a global marketing initiative. Merry Reimler, a Twin Cities-based artist who has participated in Etsy for the past two years, will present the workshop. All artists and craftpersons are encouraged to attend this free workshop, which will be held at the Center. Call 218-385-3339 to register.

Friday Night Frogging
Join a Tamarac Refuge park ranger for a night of frogging from 8 to 10. Identify frogs by their calls while learning about their natural history and significance to the ecosystem. Meet at the visitor center. Bring a flashlight and boots or shoes that can get wet.

Courthouse open house
The Becker County commissioners host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Becker County Courthouse. The Open House is in honor of the completion of the new courthouse addition and remodeling project. There will be a short presentation on the front steps at 10 a.m. Refreshments and tours will follow inside the courthouse.
Breakfast on the Farm
The community of Hawley commemorates the 50th year of its PRCA Rodeo with a weeklong celebration, starting with the 9th annual Breakfast on the Farm event, at the Hutterite colony located five miles west of Hawley on Highway 10 and five miles north on 170th Street. Roads will be marked. Sponsored by the Hawley Lions Club, the annual event begins with a breakfast of pancakes, strawberries, ham and eggs and more, served from 7 a.m. to noon. There will also be horse and tractor-drawn wagon rides; free barrel train rides; kids' pedal tractor pull and more.
Detroit Lakes' annual downtown summer kickoff, Street Faire at the Lakes, gets underway at 10 a.m. with music by local acoustic folk rock artist Tim Eggebraaten. Lehto and Wright, a progressive Celtic folk rock trio from Minneapolis, will be playing at noon. Bettina Villamil will bring an acoustic set of folk violin and mandolin to the stage at 2:30 p.m. Vincent and the Van-Goes finish the day's music with a set from 4 to 6 p.m. All bands will be playing on a stage on Holmes Street near the food and beer gardens. The Eagles Club is hosting street bingo from 6 to 8 p.m., and then Fuse will be performing during the street dance from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. Besides the music, over 125 artists will show their works throughout the weekend, and there will be food and kids' activities as well. Detroit Lakes' annual Street Faire at the Lakes concludes, with Patchouli set to perform at 11:30 a.m., Doc & the Scrubs at 2 p.m., both on the Holmes Street stage. String musician Paul Imholte will be the event's wandering minstrel, Ecuador Manta will perform, and of course, there will be plenty of tasty food and beautiful art selections available for purchase. Hawley Rodeo Fest
Hawley's 50th annual Rodeo Fest celebration continues with Community Cowboy Church at 10 a.m. and a Benefit Horse Show at 11 a.m., both on the rodeo grounds. There will be a food stand available during the horse show.
Planet Earth movie
Tamarac Refuge presents the movie Planet Earth Series- From Pole to Pole at 2 p.m. in the visitors center. From African herds migrating hundreds of miles in search of water to desperate animal hunts, Pole to Pole examines how the seasons produce the greatest spectacles on Earth. Emmy Award winner.
Monday, June 1
Miss Hawley pageant
The Little Miss Hawley/Miss Hawley Scholarship Pageant begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Hawley High School Auditorium, 714 Joseph St. The Little Miss Hawley title is decided by random drawing, while Miss Hawley contestants must compete in both an evening gown and talent event to determine the winner.

Hawley Team Roping
Hawley's Rodeo Fest celebration continues with a Team Roping competition, starting at 6 p.m. on the rodeo grounds.
Tuesdays in the Park
A Detroit Lakes summer tradition for the past several years, the Tuesdays in the Park concert series resumes June 2 with a 7 p.m. performance by the Lakes Area Community Concert Band. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the City Park Bandshell, and are free and open to the public. Call 218-844-SHOW (7469) for more information.

The Wall comes to NYM
The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall is coming to the Chas. D. Center VFW Post 3289 in New York Mills from June 3-8. The arrival of "The Wall" will be Wednesday, June 3, with a motorcade escort beginning in Wadena on Highway 10 until it reaches the VFW, located just outside of New York Mills. Hawley Sr. Health Fair
Hawley's Rodeo Fest celebration continues with the Senior Health Fair, starting at 9 a.m. in the Hawley Community Center. Booths featuring a variety of vendors will be set up for one-on-one information sharing, there will be an hour-long program starting at 9 a.m., and drawings will be held for door prizes.
