Dozing driver transported after single vehicle crash causes injuries
The female driver of a car that went off Highway 71 north of Park Rapids and struck a mailbox was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph's Area Health Services by ambulance around 11 a.m. Monday.
"I think she fell asleep at the wheel," said Mike Timmons, who was heading for a job when he came upon the accident north of Evergreen Gifts & Fun Park, the former World of Christmas.
Timmons, who works for Long Construction, stopped to render assistance. He donned a fluorescent vest and directed traffic around the crash scene. Debris was strewn 500 feet behind where the vehicle eventually stopped on the northbound shoulder.
The force of the impact ripped the rear bumper from the sedan.
The unidentified patient was stabilized and transported.
"She had a bloody nose and something wrong with her ankle," Timmons said.
The State Patrol is investigating the accident.
