Drive Your Ride: “We’ll get you and your vehicle home.”

Two Detroit Lakes graduates are turning what they say is a need in the community into their own business.

Kasi Geyer and Krystie Crawford have started up a two-woman business called “Drive Your Ride”.

The concept is simple.

People who go out and about around Becker County and have a tad too much to drink can call Drive Your Ride.

Geyer and Crawford will drive to where their customer is waiting for them.

One of the ladies will then drive them home in the customer’s own vehicle while the other follows in a separate vehicle.

This means everybody gets a safe ride home and nobody has to leave their cars and trucks sitting anywhere overnight.

“We’ve had a lot of friends that have had DUI’s, and so this is for the safety of people calling us and everybody else on the road,” said Geyer, who says they got the idea by working for a similar company out of Fargo.

“We heard from a lot of people there that they thought DL needed something like this, and since we were from here, we thought we’d start it up and see how it does,” she added.

Geyer and Crawford say it’s a good feeling for people to be out having a fun time, knowing they have a safe ride home and also knowing they don’t have to wake up the next morning with the problem of having to figure out how to get their vehicles.”

The ladies of Drive Your Ride are clear that their business is not a taxi service and do not have a taxi license – they will only drive the customer’s vehicles, which they will want to see proof of insurance for.

“And there’s no alcohol in the vehicle, and we have people sign a contract for liability purposes,” said Crawford, adding that they also won’t drive motorcycles.

They will, however, take as many people in the vehicle that fit safely in there.

Drive Your Ride will go all over the lakes area, from Frazee, Vergas and Perham to Lake Park, Callaway and Richwood.

“We’ve always thought this area needed more sober ride options, and we have a really wide radius,” said Crawford.

The price for the service depends on where they are driving to, and everything is set on a flat fee so that “people always know what they’ll be paying right off the bat”.

Detroit Lakes destinations are a flat fee of $25, Frazee, Callaway, Vergas, Lake Park and Richwood are a flat fee of $35, while the Pelican and Cormorant Lakes and Perham areas are all $45.

Drive Your Ride will be available Thursdays through Saturdays all summer from 8:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Although they will be operating on an “on-call” basis, they will be making an exception for the 4th of July weekend and WeFest, during which time the ladies will take reservations in advance and will begin providing rides around noon those days.
