Duane A. Askelson, 54, of Hitterdal, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 in his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Duane was born to Melvin and Darlene (Glawe) Askelson on December 10, 1958. He grew up in the Felton, Minn., area until he began farming, which became a lifelong passion. He married Marlys Thompson on June 14, 1977 and they had three children.
Duane loved hunting, fishing, farming and just being outdoors. He would often take drives just so he could look at the scenery. He was also a huge Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings fan.
Duane's biggest joy was spending time with family and friends. He loved being a grandpa to his five grandchildren as well as many others who adopted him as "Grandpa Duane." His smile and laughter will be greatly missed, but will never be forgotten.
Surviving Duane are his three children, Jessica (Robert) Landsverk, West Fargo, Catherine Askeslon, Moorhead and James (Kaia) Askelson, Ulen; his five grandchildren, Angela, Amber, Jacob, Gracyn and Eastyn; sisters, Delores (Billy) Halverson, Hitterdal, Elaine Thompson, Hitterdal, Denise (Roger) Halverson, Ulen, Julie (Richie) Klemetson, Hitterdal and Marcine Cahill, Waseca, Minn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Duane's parents' preceded him in death. He will be remembered as a cherished father, loving grandfather, a loyal brother and a faithful friend.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5 in Salem Lutheran Church, Hitterdal, with visitation for one hour before the start of services.
Interment will be in Felton Cemetery, Felton.
