DULUTH -- A 34-year-old Duluth man is being held in the St. Louis County Jail after being caught burglarizing a Lincoln Park home by the homeowners Thanksgiving morning, police said.

The suspect was known to the homeowners and had a brief confrontation with one of them before fleeing about 10 a.m. He was apprehended by police a short time later.

The homeowners told police they were in the process of packing their vehicle to leave for the weekend when the suspect walked by. They had a brief discussion with him about their weekend plans and when they would be returning.

They left the home, in the 2200 block of West Fourth Street, but realized they forgot some items. When they returned their back door had been kicked in and the home rummaged through. They saw the suspect running out the front door.

Officer Brad Wick said the investigation has been referred to the Property Crimes Unit. The suspect is being held on a preliminary charge of first-degree burglary.
