Donald William Laquier-Jackson, 21, remains in the Beltrami County jail in Bemidji facing a charge of first degree felony assault. He is scheduled to make a first appearance in court Monday, according to a jail spokesman.

According to a news release from Sheriff Phil Hodapp, deputies responded at about 3 a.m. today to a reported assault near the Mission area in Ten Lakes Township in the southeast corner of the county.

Christopher Lee Barrett, 22, Cass Lake, had been driven by witnesses to the assault to PHS Indian Health hospital in Cass Lake for treatment for his injuries; he was airlifted to MeritCare Hospital in Fargo. His family asked that no information be released on his condition, a Meritcare supervisor said.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, the Leech Lake Tribal Police and the Cass County Sheriff's Office are assisting Hodapp's office in the investigation.
