Sept. 12, 1941-Sept. 10, 2010
DuWayne L. Kolnes, 68, of rural Waubun, died Friday, September 10, 2010 at his residence, surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A celebration of DuWayne's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, in David Donehower Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, with visitation for one hour prior to services.
DuWayne Larry Kolnes was born to Lawrence and Eleanor (Dyrdahl) Kolnes on September 12, 1941 in Ada, Minn. He was raised and educated in Hendrum, Minn. DuWayne married Patricia Kipples in Moorhead on September 23, 1961. During his early twenties and into his thirties, DuWayne worked for DS Beverage and managed Empire Liquor in Fargo. DuWayne and Patricia later divorced.
On April 6, 1985, DuWayne was united in marriage to Corinne Fletcher in Fargo. They made their home on Lake Sallie in Detroit Lakes and in 1987, purchased Big Pine Resort near Perham. After being in the resort business for a few years they purchased Silvermoon Restaurant in Perham. DuWayne also kept busy driving truck to different parts of the country, hauling grain with his brother Ronald.
DuWayne enjoyed the simple things in life; he loved to fish, watch the Minnesota Vikings and Nascar, swing dancing, playing cards and spending time with his family as much as possible.
Life will seem empty without DuWayne, but he will forever be remembered by his wife Corinne of Detroit Lakes; his children, Cassie (Tim) Lien of Barnesville, Minn., Mary (Frank) Kara of Barnesville, Terri (Calvin) Cooley of Fergus Falls and Jeff (Jackie) Zander of Moorhead. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, along with one brother, Dennis (Harriett) Kolnes of Hendrum.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Richard and Ronald.
The David Donehower Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
