Eagles rally past DL boys' hockey
The regular season ended on a flat note for the Detroit Lakes boys' hockey team after it suffered an 8-2 loss in Red Lake Falls on Thursday.
The loss gives DL a final regular season record of 7-18-0 as they headed into the Section 6-1A play-in game, which is Saturday in Long Prairie.
The Lakers saw an early 1-0 lead vanish by the result of a Red Lake Falls' run which netted eight unanswered goals through all three periods.
Tanner Lane kicked off the scoring with a score 2:52 into the first, with the assist provided by Brett Provo.
But the Eagles stormed back for three goals in the first, four in the second and one in the third periods.
Forward Alex Phelps picked up DL's second goal in the third period with assists going to each of Provo and Lane.
Blake Murphy was tagged with the loss in net, with 21 saves.
Lane finished the year as the team's leading scorer with 49 points, including 24 goals and 25 assists. He had four power play goals and two short-handed scores.
Phelps was second with 32 points, with 12 goals and 20 assists.
The winner from Saturday's play-in game will travel to top-seeded Little Falls Tuesday in the section quarterfinals.
