Former Detroit Lakes resident Edwin Wallace Johnson, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2010.
Edwin was born the son of the late Edwin Nathaniel and Emma (Slaatta) Johnson on May 2, 1923, in New Ulm, Minn. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1941.
After graduating from Harvard College in 1944, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard in 1949, and then began a 33-year career as a research chemist for Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Edwin frequently visited Detroit Lakes to see family and friends, attend high school reunions, and sail his catamaran.
He leaves his wife, Jean; two sons, Kenneth and Paul; two grandchildren; his sister Betty Eyestone of Columbia, Mo.; and his brother Allan of Brookfield, Wis.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27 in Murrysville, Pa. If desired, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Murrysville, PA 15668.
