Eileen M. "Ma" Sagmo, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Eileen Marie Sagmo was born to Herman and Martha (Stender) Harthun on February 26, 1929 in Dent, Minn. She grew up and attended country school in rural Dent. In 1946 she moved to Detroit Lakes, where she worked as a waitress.
On May 6, 1948 Eileen was united in marriage to Chester Sagmo in Detroit Lakes. They farmed in the Cotton Lake area in rural Detroit Lakes. Over the years she worked as a cook at the American Legion, VFW, Elks, and Eagles Club.
Eileen loved spending time with her family and was a very proud mother. Her hobbies included Bingo, gardening, fishing, dancing and cooking.
Surviving Eileen are her husband, Chester; one son, Ronald (Tammy) Sagmo of Frazee; three daughters, Bonnie (Darcy) Bellefeuille of Vergas, DeAnn McWethy of Detroit Lakes and Kandy (Brad) Peterson of Dent; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister, Marion Umlauf-Zimmerman of Fergus Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Kathie Sagmo; one granddaughter, Kathie Nelson; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10 at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, with a 4 p.m. prayer service.
Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Monday, April 11 at Bakke Lutheran Church in rural Detroit Lakes, with interment in the church cemetery.
