The Elevators come to Detroit Lakes

Described as "modern jazz with a lift," The Elevators will make their Detroit Lakes debut this Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Fireside Lobby at the Lodge on Lake Detroit. The Fargo-Moorhead based group formed in the summer of 2007.

Join a Tamarac Wildlife Refuge park ranger from 2-3:30 p.m. today (Sunday) for a two-mile beginners ski trek. You'll leisurely glide along with stops to admire the winter wildlife. Grab your skis, dress in layers and head to the Pine Lake Ski Trail at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge on Hwy 29. When school's not in session, the DLCCC provides a safe place for kids to have some fun! Kids are invited to the DLCCC on Monday, Jan. 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for Kids' Day Out, featuring mystery-themed games, activities and crafts. Lunch and a snack are provided. Step out of the cold, and take a walk on the wild side at the 2009 Motion arts fund-raiser, which gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 in the Historic Holmes Theatre. This swingin', sizzlin', safari-themed soiree is a celebration to benefit the arts in the Lakes Area (specifically, children's programming at the Holmes Theatre). A live auction begins at 8 p.m., and there will be live music by Betty Does from 8:30 p.m. to midnight. There will also be a variety of food stations featuring prime rib, pork loin, a Tex-Mex fondue and more. Tickets are $50 per person or $15 for the dance only. On Saturday, January 24, at 7:30 p.m. Ulen-Hitterdal's Top Hat Theatre will feature Minneapolis pianist Mary Beth Carlson. Selected Ulen-Hitterdal choir students will be featured during the concert. Tickets range fro $10-$15, and can be purchased at the school office or by phone at 218-596-8853. The Ulen-Hitterdal School band and choir students and parents will be hosting a Spaghetti Supper from 5-7 p.m. prior to the Mary Beth Carlson concert. There will also be a salad bar, garlic toast, and dessert.

SOHR (Sexual Orientation and Human Rights) presents a free movie at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 in the DL Public Library. The title of the movie is "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," rated PG-13. The 49th annual Red River Valley Coin and Stamp Show is Jan. 24-25 in Doublewood Inn, Fargo. It is the largest coin and stamp show in the Upper Midwest. Featuring over 50 tables and 30 dealers from six states.
