Elizabeth M. McCarthy, 79, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at St. Mary's Innovis Health in Detroit Lakes.

Elizabeth M. Krzmarzick was born to Fredrick and Susanna (Reuter) Krzmarzick on Aug. 19, 1928 in Garrison, N.D. She was raised and educated in Garrison and graduated from the St. Alexius School of Nursing in Bismarck, N.D. She worked as a registered nurse in Bismarck and Little Falls, Minn.

Liz married James McCarthy on June 17, 1953 in Garrison. The couple made their home in Detroit Lakes. Liz was active in Holy Rosary Church, having taught CCD classes, served as president of Christian Mothers, and taken part in Koinanea and Marriage Encounter. She enjoyed gardening, baking, bird watching, wearing hats and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her husband, Jim McCarthy of Detroit Lakes; children, Clarence (Stephanie) McCarthy of Sparks, Nev., Tim (Tammy) McCarthy of Long Lake, Minn., Brian (Joyce) McCarthy of Adrian, Minn., Susan (Dan) Korf of Rochert, Mark McCarthy of Victoria, Minn., Malachy (Kristen) McCarthy of Lake City, Minn., Marian (Doug) Beumer of Minneapolis, Justin (Michele) McCarthy of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Carol McCarthy of Detroit Lakes; 23 grandchildren; a brother, Romaine "Kris" McCarthy of Vista, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis (John) Hunkele of Rapid City, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Rosemary Bliss of St. Cloud, Minn.

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Jean; her parents; a sister, Virginia; and a brother, Leo.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 27, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church; there will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a Parish Vigil at 7 p.m.. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Saturday.

A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerry Rogers officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery.
