Elmer E. Kading, 72, of rural Vergas, died Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Perham Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Detroit Lakes, with Reverend Fred Crowell officiating. Interment will be in the Weimann Cemetery, rural Vergas.
Friends may call from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., in Furey Funeral Home, Vergas, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Elmer Edward Kading was born to August and Augusta (Lang) Kading on January 29, 1939 in Perham. He graduated from Perham High School in 1957. Following graduation, he farmed with his parents prior to serving with the National Guard for two years. Following his discharge, he returned to rural Vergas to farm.
Elmer was united in marriage to Geraldine Heier, June 4, 1961 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Height of Land Township, rural Detroit Lakes. They farmed in Dora Township, rural Vergas and Elmer sang and played the accordion, primarily with the "Harmonaires."
Elmer enjoyed time with his grandchildren and family, fishing, hunting, country music and attending the Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag. In recent years, Elmer also enjoyed working part-time at Steve Gorentz's dairy farm.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Geraldine of Vergas, sons, Roger (Judy) of Detroit Lakes, Robert of Detroit Lakes and Richard (Rhonda) of Alexandria; a daughter, Rhonda (Tom) Franklin of Frazee; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two brothers, Alfred (Dorothy) of Vergas and Vernon of the Twin Cities.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Rosella (Gerald) Grahn.
