March 2, 1927-June 24, 2008
Elmer J. Ricard, 81, of Crookston, Minn., passed away early Tuesday morning, June 24, 2008 at the RiverView Hospital in Crookston.
Elmer was born the son of Francis and Amelia (Archambault) Ricard on March 2, 1927, in Beltrami, Minn., where he attended country school. Elmer married Viola Amiot on Jan. 21, 1947 in Gentilly, Minn., and they made their home on a farm near Red Lake Falls. Last January, Elmer and Viola celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
Over the years, Elmer worked for Arden Leas, Feegal Construction/American Crystal, the alfalfa plant, Byrus Erie Steele Company, Bertil's Gravel, E.W. Wylie and Valley Contractors, mostly running heavy equipment. After retirement, Elmer and Viola spent their winters in Mission, Texas for several years, and Elmer worked during summers on the farm with Norma and Curt Hoppe.
Elmer enjoyed farming, motorcycles, fishing and camping, and especially, spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed for his keen sense of humor.
Elmer and Viola raised six children, Ginny (Jerry) Hanson of Fargo, Norman (Sue) Ricard of Bemidji, Jean (Neal) Glawe of Detroit Lakes, Gerald (Carla) Ricard of Glyndon, Arlene (Kevin) Krogstad of Linton, N.D., and Francis (Kristi) Ricard of Cavalier, N.D.; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his siblings, Loretta Chisholm, Ardell (George) Von Tiesenhausen and Norma (Curt) Hoppe.
Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Arlene Krogstad; and siblings, Marcella Lanctot, Audrey Ricard, Lester Ricard and Vern Ricard.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, with the Rev. Robert Schreiner presiding. There will be visitation for one hour prior to the start of services Inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
