Elvin W. Block, 79, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Essentia Health-St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30 in First Lutheran Church, Audubon. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery, Audubon.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
The visitation will continue at the church for one hour prior to Tuesday's services.
Elvin William Block was born to Arnold and Olena (Mortenson) Block on November 24, 1933 in Fergus Falls. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Syvertson June 22, 1957 in rural Lake Park.
He worked for Knutson Brothers Texaco in Detroit Lakes and, for over 40 years had worked for Friesen's manufacturing in Detroit Lakes.
Elmer enjoyed working on old tractors and old cars; going to auction sales; collecting farm toys and hub caps; custom combining for his neighbors and attending the steam threshers' reunions at Rollag and Dalton, Minn.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Brian (JoAnn) of Detroit Lakes and Dean of Detroit Lakes; five daughters, Cindy Block of Detroit Lakes, Sandy (Tom) Sharp of Henderson, Nev., Nancy (Jeff) Brown of Westmorland, New Hampshire, Cheryl (Jack) Cossette of Audubon and Lisa (Todd) Lorenz of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Arlo (Nadia) Block of Vergas and Vern (Judy) Block of Detroit Lakes; a brother-in-law, Donny (Bea) Syvertson of Lake Park; and many neices and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a son, Richard, and his parents.
