Elwood J. Lund, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Oak Crossing (St. Mary's Nursing Center) in Detroit Lakes.
Elwood Lund was born to Edward and Louise (Katzung) Lund on March 30, 1918 in Bricelyn, Minn. He grew up and attended school there, graduating from Bricelyn High School in 1936. He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where he earned a bachelor's degree.
Elwood was united in marriage to Madeline Kittelson on November 27, 1942 in Cheyenne, Wyo., where he was stationed in the Army Air Corps. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. Following his discharge they returned to Bricelyn, where Elwood worked for the State Bank of Bricelyn. In 1964 they moved to Shelly, Minn., where he served as president of the local Bremer Bank. He retired from the bank in 1983.
Over the next years, the couple spent summers at their lake home in Longville, Minn., and winters in Mesa, Ariz. They moved to Lincoln Park Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes in 2002.
Elwood was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed pheasant hunting and downhill skiing.
Surviving Elwood are three sons, Brian (Penny) Lund of Detroit Lakes, Tom (Tenlee) Lund of Longville, Minn., and Greg (Bonnie) Lund of Twin Valley, Minn.; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and special friend, Luella Gandrud.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Madeline (2003); his parents; one brother, Lew Lund; and one sister, Nedra Jorgenson.
A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Camp Ripley, Minn.
