Ely deputy clerk put on leave during investigation
Ely police are investigating the city's long-time deputy clerk.
The Ely City Council placed Patricia M. Wellvang on an unpaid leave of absence Wednesday while the investigation is conducted.
"This is a difficult situation for the city and the community," the city said in a statement released after Wednesday's closed meeting. "We are looking into matters and are conducting an official investigation. We are not able to discuss events in much detail because much of the information is private. We are still trying to sort out the public and private data. When the investigation is complete, we will share what we can."
Wellvang has worked for the city as deputy clerk for 32 years, Ely Clerk-Treasurer Terri Boese said this morning. Wellvang makes $25.36 an hour for the fulltime job.
Boese declined to talk about the investigation. Neither Wellvang nor Ely Mayor Roger J. Skraba could immediately be reached for comment.
