Emmanuel finishes addition; to host open house, ribbon cutting ceremony Oct. 21
Emmanuel has completed its $6.9 million dollar expansion.
"We're ready to serve the community," said Steve Przybilla, assistant campus administrator.
Emmanuel has undergone a number of additions over the past few years. The latest change is the addition of The Cottage & Day Spa. The Cottage is a luxury alternative to a nursing home and maximizes independence in a smaller intimate setting.
"The project is unique because it integrates day services, respite services and private care suites under one roof," said Przybilla. "The Cottage is designed for clients needing services for an afternoon or for those needing 24-hour cares for long periods of time."
Emmanuel's concept caught the attention of the Minnesota Department of Human Services during the 2007 Community Services/Services Development Grant process. The Cottage & Day Spa project was awarded a $250,000 grant to ensure the concept could become reality.
The concept was further supported by a State of Minnesota study that was conducted to help prepare Minnesota service providers for the Age Wave and beyond. The study shows informal family caregivers provide more than 90 percent of all care at home and each 2 percent reduction in those informal caregivers costs the State of Minnesota nearly $10 million annually.
Przybilla added, "one of the important purposes of The Cottage's respite program is to give family members time and temporarily relieve the stress they may experience while providing care for an adult family member or friend. Respite care enables families to take vacations, meet personal appointments or just take a few hours of time off. Respite is often referred to as a gift of time."
Periodic respite care can help caregivers relax for a while and come back revitalized and better able to care for their loved one.
The Cottage also features a Wellsystem aqua massage system. The community can enjoy a private relaxing whole body massage, without removing any clothing. The specially designed massage bed features adjustable pressure, lower, upper, or full body massage programs.
The system ensures relaxation and loosening up of muscles by means of its unique combination of warmth and water pressure massage. Przybilla went on to say that you do not need to live at The Cottage & Day Spa to enjoy an aqua massage. The services are available to the public by appointment.
The 30,000 square foot addition also added office space for Emmanuel's growing home care program, allowed Emmanuel to add a conference center to host community meetings, and a new central kitchen to serve the campuses growing needs.
Emmanuel would like to invite the public to stop by on Oct. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m. to celebrate the grand opening. Enjoy the ribbon cutting ceremony, tours and refreshments.
