Emmett Miller, 95, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Emmett, the son of Herman and Nora (Flom) Miller, was born on November 14, 1917 in Flom, Minn. He was raised in Flom and graduated from Waubun High School in 1934.
Emmett was united in marriage to Adeline Solberg on February 7, 1942. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted and served in the United States Army during World War II.
After Emmett received an honorable discharge in 1944, they made their home in Detroit Lakes, where he worked for Albert Hill Construction. He worked for Swedberg Construction for a few years, before starting Emmett Miller Construction. Emmett continued to work until retiring at the age of 88.
Emmett was a former commander of Jesse Omundson VFW Post 1676 and the Seam Squirrel for the Cooties. He was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, reading, and playing whist and pinochle. Emmett truly enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving Emmett are his three sons, Russell (Rita) Miller of Detroit Lakes, Roger (Cheryl) Miller of Shoreview and Harlan Miller of Shoreline, Wash.; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Virgil (Betty) Miller of Billings, Mont.; sister-in-law, Ramona Bettendorf of Moorhead; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Emmett in death were his parents; wife, Adeline (2009); two brothers, Charles and Noel Miller; and three sisters, Elpha Gunderson, Erna Zimmerman and Eileen Thorpe.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, with Pastor Jillene Gallatin officiating. There will be visitation for one hour prior to services.
