University of Minnesota, Morris Concert Choir will perform in New York Mills on Friday, February 29 at 7:30 pm. The concert will be held at the James W. Mann Center for the Performing Arts at the New York Mills High School. The 60+ voice University of Minnesota, Morris Concert Choir is under the direction of Ken Hodgson, Tickets are $12 the night of the concert or $10 in advance through the Cultural Center.

Opening Tuesday, February 29 at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is an exhibition of the woodcuts, oil paintings, and wildlife sculptures of Fergus Falls native Charles Beck. Mr. Beck is one of the most highly regarded artists working in Minnesota, and this will be his first show at the Cultural Center. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday from 10am to 5pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. The pubic is invited to a reception in Mr. Beck's honor on Friday, March 7th from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The show will run through Saturday, March 29.

Minnesota State Community & Technical College in Fergus Falls will present an adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" on Friday, Feb. 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. The play is presented at the MSCTC Waage Fine Arts Theatre. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door for adults; $6 in advance and $7 at the door for youth ages 18 and under; children 5 and under are admitted free. All seats reserved. A new exhibit, "African Americans in World War II," opened Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham. This exhibit contains 40 framed photographs and labels with additional comments regarding the effort of the black soldier and military personnel, and continues through Feb. 29. The ITOW Veterans Museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-4 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students. Veterans are admitted free of charge. The country band October Road will play at the Holmes Theatre 9 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, March 1, as part of the Motion fund-raiser. Cost is $15 per person. Ticket available at the door or call 844-SHOW. Proceeds benefit children's programming.

Come early for the Motion fund-raiser, a boot-scootin' cowboy bash that starts at 6 p.m. Tickets to the entire evening of food, games, auction and entertainment are $60 per person.

The Bemidji Symphony Orchestra's next subscription concert No. 3, "Classic Dreams," will be held on Sunday, March 2, at the Bemidji High School Auditorium, beginning at 3 p.m.

This concert will feature Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Alan Zhou on violin, Dvorak's Symphony No. 8 in G major and Handel's Overture to Royal Fireworks.

Come to Itasca State Park and discover the good old days of harvesting lake ice.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Recreation, together with the Lake Itasca Regional Pioneer Farmers, have rescheduled the ice harvesting demonstration on Lake Itasca, for Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Dress warmly so you can see first-hand how they cut an opening in the ice with a single-handled handsaw. Watch as they bounce the ice blocks out of the water and onto the ice edge. Come experience the winter history of northern Minnesota.

The annual Minnesota State Community & Technical College Area Invitational Art Show is scheduled for March 1-March 28. Unless other arrangements are made in advance, entries should be delivered by hand to the Waage Art Center between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28, and Friday, Feb. 29. Two entries are accepted per person. No entry fee will be charged, nor will the college take any commission on works sold while on exhibit. An entry form must be submitted with each piece of work. This form can be picked up in the office of the Waage Fine Arts Center or obtained by calling Tori Beske at 218-736-1600 or e-mailing tori.beske@minnesota.edu.

The 41st annual Hawley Art Show & Sale is scheduled for April 4-6 at the Hawley Community Center. Artists can enter their work on Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30 from 1-5 p.m. Registration fees are $5 per entry for professional and amateur classes and $3 for elementary and high school students, with a limit of three works per artist.
