Former Ponsford and Minneapolis resident Ernest B. Bonga, 76, of Frazee, died Thursday, July 30, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Ernest was born to John George and Francis (Wadena) Bonga on Jan. 29, 1933 in Ponsford, where he was raised and educated before moving to Minneapolis. For 18 years he worked at Sears, selling and installing fencing for customers.
In 1980, Ernie married Andrea Wagar at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Minneapolis. They made their home in Minneapolis, where Ernie continued working at Sears before later taking a job with Mystic Lake Casino. Ernie loved his family and friends, and was known for his gentle nature and willingness to always lend a helping hand to those that needed it.
Ernie enjoyed fishing, boxing, playing bingo and spending quality time with his son, Patrick. He loved his church and was a faithful parishioner all his life.
Ernie will be remembered and missed by his wife, Andrea Bonga of Frazee, son. Patrick Bonga of Mahnomen and one grandson; as well as his sister, Verna Basswood of Mahnomen.
Preceding Ernie in death were his parents; seven brothers, Patrick, Paul, Melvin, Irvine, Robert, Harvey and John Jr.; and two sisters, Edna and Carol.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, in the Pine Point Community Center, Ponsford, continuing until the time of mass on Monday.
A mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford.
Interment will be held at St. Theodore's Catholic Cemetery, Ponsford.
