March 7, 1933-July 28, 2009
Ernest B. Iverson, 76, of Winger, Minn., died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at his home as a result of farming accident.
Ernest Bernard Iverson was born the son of Lars and Bertha (Baglien) Iverson on March 7, 1933 in Garden Township, Minn. He was raised on the family farm and attended school near there. On April 23, 1966 Ernie married Barbara Aanenson at Faaberg Lutheran Church in Rindal, Minn. Barb and Ernie made their home on the family farm before purchasing their own farm a half-mile away in 1970.
Ernie operated a cattle and grain farm with his brothers for many years. Although he had good intentions of retirement, he continued helping Spike, Aaron and James with the farm work and taking care of his cattle.
Ernie truly had a passion for his family and farm. He greatly enjoyed spending time with each of his grandchildren, and treasured them. Quite often he would take a drive to check the fields and return home with a grandchild in tow.
Ernie also liked to attend auctions, play bingo in Bejou and Gary and go to the casino with his wife. He was always ready for a game of cards with family or friends, especially whist, rummy, and Texas hold'em. He liked to watch "The Price is Right" and Nascar -- always cheering for a "Ford" driver. Ernie will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
Surviving Ernie are his wife of 43 years, Barb Iverson of Winger; one daughter, Bonnie (Jr.) Knutson of Detroit Lakes; two sons, Byron (Sara) and Aaron (Kathy) Iverson, both of Winger; nine grandchildren; one brother: Kenneth (Delores) Dalby of Fertile, Minn.; one sister, Agnes Bestul of Winger; a sister-in-law, Mary Iverson of Winger; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Ernie in death were his parents; three brothers, Palmer, Carol and Lloyd; one sister, Emelia; one grandson, Andrew Knutson; a brother-in-law, Peder Bestul; a nephew, Leroy Bestul; and a niece, Shelly (Engen) Olson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 1 at Faaberg Lutheran Church in rural Fertile, with the Rev. Kelly Ahola officiating. Serving as pallbearers were David Pederson, Marv Gunderson, Matt Sirjord, Russel Gunufson, Walter VanDenEinde, Ted VanDenEinde, Lowell Stevens and Orrie Flermoen. Ernie's grandchildren all served as honorary bearers.
Interment was at Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home of Mahnomen and Winger, Minn. An online guestbook is available at www.andersonmattson.com.
