Essentia Health-Mahnomen offers blood screening
Residents in the Mahnomen area have an opportunity to help keep their health on track.
Essentia Health St. Mary’s-Mahnomen Clinic is offering an affordable series of blood screening tests that can give you and your doctor a valuable snapshot of your overall health.
The blood screenings will be offered from 7-9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at the clinic (117 North Main Street, Mahnomen). The blood draw and subsequent testing costs $35 and takes about 15 minutes.
Pre-registration is preferred. Call the Mahnomen clinic at (218) 936-5616 to sign up.
The tests will include a check of cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels, potassium and electrolyte levels, and white and red blood cell counts, along with a measure of kidney and liver function.
Patients will receive a letter in the mail with their results. The lab plans to send letters three or four days after testing. It’s a good idea for patients to discuss those results with their primary care physician.
“It’s a great way to for patients to have their preventive screenings at an affordable price – especially if they don’t have insurance or have a very high deductible,” explains Angie Ramsdell, a phlebotomist at the clinic.
Ramsdell recommends that patients fast for 12 hours before the blood draw for the most accurate results. She says it’s important for patients to drink plenty of water even though they aren’t eating prior to the testing.
