Essentia Women's Services moves into new DL clinic
The Women's Services Department opened in its new home recently - the new clinic building at Essentia Health-St. Mary's.
The former Women's Clinic, which housed women's services in a separate building, will be demolished later this summer.
"The new clinic is where we hope to build a more integrated program that includes pre-natal care, labor and delivery services and post-natal care," says Senior Administrative Leader Christy Brinkman, who notes St. Mary's has seen annual births increase by more than 200 in the last 10 years.
The Women's Services Department is staffed by two OB/GYNs, a certified nurse midwife and a licensed social worker.
The first-floor location includes eight exam rooms, an ultrasound room and a lactation room.
An education center will open next year, sharing a wealth of resources with the community.
"Ideally, our goal is to get women of all ages established in our health system with our OB providers, then guide them toward establishing with one of our Family Practice physicians," Brinkman says.
"We also do outreach in Park Rapids and see many of those outreach patients staying with our system."
A community-wide grand opening will be held sometime in September.
Other surgical specialties are also moving into the new 49,000-square-foot Detroit Lakes clinic.
The new space will allow Essentia to more than double the number of physicians and credentialed practitioners there by 2015.
