Ethel M. Halverson was born to Clara and Roy Halverson on September 17, 1919, the eldest of seven, on the family farm at Oak Lake Crossing between Audubon and Detroit Lakes. She attended country school, graduating from the eighth grade. She worked at housekeeping in her teenage years for various families and in her 20’s attended Air Craft School in Kansas City, Mo. She then worked in the electronics field in St. Paul during World War II.

At age 20, Ethel accepted Jesus as her personal lord and savior.

Later, Ethel became a nurse’s aid at the St. Mary’s Nursing Home.  Edwin passed away in 1969. In 1990, Ethel moved to a home in Detroit Lakes, where she continued to have a large garden and yard, with beautiful flowers. She enjoyed socializing and visiting relatives and was an excellent cook and baker.

After her official retirement, she continued to care for elderly people, including Elva, who couldn’t live alone anymore and came to live with her.

In 2005, Ethel moved into the Winchester Apartments, where she enjoyed the socialization. She was active in the First Lutheran Church in Audubon, and assisted with her circle and quilting group.

In 2010, Ethel moved to Pendleton, Ore., to live with daughter Gloria and son-in-law, Gary Larson, when she couldn’t live alone anymore.
