Evelyn (Evie) Henrietta Gerlach, 85, passed away Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, with family by her side.
Evelyn was born to Henry and Nettie Pederson in rural Fergus Falls, graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1945. In 1947 she married Richard (Dick) Gerlach and they made their home near Foxhome, where they farmed for many years.
They had two daughters, Kathy and Karen; three grandsons, Nathan, Matthew and Todd; special granddaughter, Deling; and two great grand-children, Eleanor and Sophie.
They later moved into Fergus Falls. After leaving their home on Hoot Lake, Evie moved into the Mill Pond Apartments in Pelican Rapids, where she attended Trinity Church. She later moved into the assisted living at the Fairmont in Moorhead, where she lived until moving into the Lamplighter Manor apartments and later, Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Evie was a hard-working, Christian lady who loved spending time with her family and friends. She was loving, generous, gentle and kind. She was very involved in her churches, especially Foxhome Lutheran when living on the farm. She raised a huge vegetable garden with lovely flowers, and she canned and froze all her produce. She loved cooking and baking and sharing with many.
Evie especially enjoyed bowling on a women's league with friends for many years. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, puzzles, watching game shows on television, word search books, playing cards, Bingo and her coffee.
Preceding Evie in death were her parents; in-laws, Emil and Eleanor Gerlach; brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Corinne Pederson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Pederson; brother-in-law, Wesley Weyhrauch and Dick Gerlach, who died in April of this year.
Surviving Evie are her daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Simison of Detroit Lakes and Karen (Alan) Arunski of Wentzville, Mo.; grandsons, Nathan (Sara) Arunski of St. Louis, Mo., Matthew Arunski of Olathe, Kansas and Todd Simison of Detroit Lakes; special granddaughter, Deling Zhang of Detroit Lakes (originally Quindao, China); great grandchildren, Eleanor (Ellie) Arunski and Sophie Arunski; brothers, Donald (Helen) Pederson of Fergus Falls and Roger Pederson of Fergus Falls; sister, Phyllis (Chuck) Green of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss her dearly, as she was loved so much by them all.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 at Glende-Nilson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with Vicki Marthaler officiating, Andrew Yaggie, pianist and Tyler Schwichtenberg, soloist.
Visitation will take place for one hour prior to services.
Interment is in Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls.
