Explosion injures one at new Moorhead clinic
A small explosion Monday at a new Sanford Health clinic here set to open next week will delay its opening.
Sanford’s new $17 million south Moorhead clinic was set to open March 3.
But Monday’s explosion will push that date back, said Jeff Hoss, Sanford vice president of clinical operations.>
Hoss didn’t give any indication of how long the opening will be delayed.
Moorhead police responded to a report of a small propane tank explosion inside the unopened clinic at about 1:10 p.m., Lt. Tory Jacobson said.
Jacobson said one person sustained minor injuries, contradicting Hoss’ statement that all Sanford employees were at another end of the building at the time of the explosion, and no one was hurt.
Pushed for further information, Sanford spokeswoman Emily Bormann said one employee’s injuries were assessed at the scene.
That person has returned to work, she said.
Hoss said the explosion occurred near the lobby, and appeared to come from a secondary elevator shaft.
Sanford officials will survey the damage to determine when the clinic will be ready to open, he said.
