Ty Hongerhalt, 22, was arrested after police responded to a call of a domestic dispute to a home in the 400 block of Seventh Avenue South about midnight Thursday, Lt. Joel Vettel said.

Hongerhalt was among family members who police said had stayed up in the wake of the recent death of an elderly family member, according to Vettel.

At one point, Hongerhalt grabbed a shotgun from a closet and made threatening statements to family, police allege. Another family member pulled the gun away from him, Vettel said.

Hongerhalt also made threatening statements to family members about a knife, police say.

He was arrested on suspicion of terrorizing.

As police investigated the incident, a squad car of one of the officers on scene was rear-ended in a hit and run.

Vettel said police are investigating the accident, which happened when the officers were inside the home. Based on the debris left behind, the squad car may be significantly damaged, he said.
