FARGO – The National Weather Service has issued a new forecast for the Red River that anticipates a crest in Fargo-Moorhead at 34 feet early Wednesday – taking 1.5 feet off the forecasted crest for the second time in two days.

A graphic released with the forecast showing the Red hitting 34 feet about 1 a.m. Wednesday morning and holding at the level for about 12 hours before beginning to drop.

On Monday, the Weather Service issued a forecast predicting the river would hit 35.5 feet in Fargo, which followed a crest forecast on Sunday of 37 feet.

The Red River in Fargo is expected to drop below 30 feet, considered to be major flood stage, some time on Sunday.
