Fargo man sentenced to 14 years in porn case

A Fargo man has been sentenced in federal court to 14 years in prison on child pornography charges.

Robert Scheiring, 43, pleaded guilty in November 2009 to distributing materials involving the sexual exploitation of minors and to possessing materials involved in sexually exploiting children.

The charges were filed in U.S. District Court after federal officials executed search warrants at Scheiring's office at Blue Cross Blue Shield headquarters in Fargo, where he worked at the time, and at Scheiring's home in Fargo.

Electronic storage devices seized in the searches revealed about 600,000 image files and 2,400 video files of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of North Dakota, which announced Scheiring's sentence Friday.

The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Ralph Erickson, calls for Scheiring to serve 14 years, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Scheiring was a member of several password-protected online bulletin boards that were used to distribute child pornography.

Scheiring's crimes occurred from 2008 through May 2009, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
