Fargo police say man beat up woman, stole her friend's car
FARGO - Police in Fargo arrested a 35-year-old man after he allegedly beat up a female acquaintance and another man and stole the man's car.
Joseph Frank Mayes of Fargo was arrested on suspicion of aggravated domestic assault, robbery and theft of a motor vehicle.
According to Fargo police Sgt. Mark Lykken:
Police were called at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to the 1100 block of 13th Avenue North.
Mayes had gone to the residence to speak with the 20-year-old female. When they started arguing, her 55-year-old male acquaintance intervened, and Mayes allegedly assaulted them both.
Mayes allegedly took the 55-year-old man's car keys and stole his car.
Mayes was arrested after he went to the Cass County Jail on his own and asked to speak with police, Lykken said.
Both victims were taken by ambulance to MeritCare Hospital for minor injuries, Lykken said, adding the assault was considered aggravated because the woman was knocked unconscious for a brief period of time.
The vehicle, a 2007 Ford Taurus, had not been recovered as of this morning, Lykken said.
