Faye E. Stanhope, 91, of Detroit Lakes, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at St. Mary's Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes.
Faye Evelyn Baakkonen was born to Abram and Felta (Haapa) Baakkonen on Feb. 23, 1917 in Leaf Lake Township near New York Mills. She married Vernon Stanhope on Oct. 27, 1935. In 1948, they moved to Detroit Lakes, where they divorced some years later.
Faye worked for Swift and Company for a number of years and then worked as a domestic for a number of Detroit Lakes residents. She entered St. Mary's Nursing Center in June 2005.
Faye was very proud of her Finish background and would tell you that she was a "Finn."
Surviving Faye are her daughter, Jane (Harlan) Lewis of Delano, Minn.; sons, Jack Stanhope of Baudette, Minn., and James Stanhope of Aurora, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22 at David-Donehower Funeral Home, in Detroit Lakes, with Chaplain Tim Cook officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the start of services at the funeral home.
