Fergus Falls picks up big section win over Laker girls' basketball
FERGUS FALLS - The Laker girls' basketball team had their five-game winning streak halted Tuesday night in a 60-45 loss to section rival Fergus Falls (11-8).
"Fergus Falls came out hungrier than us," said head coach Mike Hoganson.
The Lakers (11-6) may have come out flat due to a lack of practice -- as DL schools had school cancelled on Monday due to weather.
"Missing Mondays practice affected us more than it should have," said Hoganson of the day off.
A lack of scoring was a direct result of the Lakers being out rebounded by a considerable margin.
"They really hurt us on the offensive boards," Hoganson stated. "Which led to second and third shots."
The Otters were led in scoring and rebounding by freshman Mariah Monke -- who had 18 points.
"Their ninth grade big girl really stepped up for them," said Hoganson of Monke.
Seniors Abby Hoganson and Morgan Lof were the only Lakers in double digits -- 17 and 10 points, respectively.
Thursday the girls will travel to conference foe Pequot Lakes (7-4) with a chance to clinch the Mid-State conference -- game at 7:30 p.m.
"We need a great team effort to beat Pequot (Lakes) on Thursday," added Hoganson.
