There were two negative facets of the game which led to a sweep at the hands of the Fergus Falls Post 30 squad Thursday, as the Detroit Lakes Legion squad was inflicted with errors and walks.

Post 15 suffered a pair of losses by the scores of 14-7 and 13-5 at Washington Ballpark, after six errors led to 10 unearned runs in game one and 10 walks aided Fergus Falls in game two.

"Those are killers," said DL head coach Mitch McLeod on the errors and walks.

Brian Labat was making just his second start on the mound since his Babe Ruth days and accuracy became a problem, after giving up seven walks in 1.1 innings of work in the nightcap.

Fergus Falls cashed those walks in for eight runs in the second inning, while Andy Fondrick came in for relief and Max Knoll pitching the final four innings.

"This was Brian's second time only in quite sometime," McLeod said. "He still has good potential, he just hasn't had the mound time."

One aspect not lacking for the Lakers was their bats.

They collected six hits in game two and also took advantage of four FF errors.

Jordan Manning was 2-4 with an RBI and two doubles, while Kirk McLeod was 2-3 with an RBI.

"Kirk is hitting the ball well lately," Mitch McLeod added.

Knoll, who was making his pitching debut, went four innings and allowed six hits and two runs, but more importantly walked just one.

"It was good to see Max throw well, because that's just another pitcher we can use now," the DL coach said.

After giving up a five-run first inning to Post 30, DL answered with a five-run second to take a 6-5 lead.

The Lakers produced five hits in the inning off of starter Trevor Larson, with shortstop Connor McLeod's two-run double and Manning's two-run single being the big blows.

But Fergus Falls came back with five runs in the fourth to regain the advantage 10-6.

In the two five-run innings, only two runs were earned with Nate Baker on the hill, while Post 30 had seven hits.

In the decisive fourth, Post 15 had two crucial errors leading to three unearned runs.

Post 30 started the rally with a DL error and followed it up with three consecutive singles and two straight walks by Baker.

Three more runs in the seventh secured a 14-7 win, as Kirk McLeod -- also making his pitching debut -- pitched the final two innings, allowing three hits, as DL had two more errors in the final frame.

"Kirk pitched well, so it's nice knowing we have two (new) pitchers we can count on," Mitch McLeod said.

Fergus Falls did rip 13 hits off the DL pitchers, with Larson going 2-4 with three runs scored.

The Lakers were led by Jordan Manning's 2-4 day, along with two RBIs, with each of Connor McLeod, Nate Krohne and T.J. Manning gaining two hits apiece.

T.J. Manning had a scare midway through the game, after a hot shot down third baseline deflect off his glove and railed right above his left eye.

Manning left for the remainder of the game, but returned for the second tilt.

Larson picked up the win for FF, allowing nine hits and seven runs.

The Lakers were in the Ely Tournament over the weekend and will play in Moorhead Monday and host West Fargo Tuesday, before hosting the Water Carnival Tournament Thursday-Sunday.

DL open against Fargo Thursday, plays Roseville Friday and Andover Saturday.

Post 15 will wrap up the tourney with a 5 p.m. start against Brandon, Manitoba, and Moorhead at 8 p.m.

All other DL games will start at 8 p.m.
