Festival of Birds

Detroit Lakes' 12th annual Festival of Birds gets underway with registration from noon to 5:30 p.m. at Minnesota State Community & Technical College-DL. Please register before heading over to Maplelag Resort for the day's activities. Today's workshops at Maplelag include "Beginning Birding in the Field," "Shorebirds Revealed," and "GPS in the Field," all starting at 2:30 p.m. The evening presentation, "Critical Breeding Bird Monitoring in Minnesota," begins at 5:45 p.m., and features Bonnie Sample, Minnesota Breeding Bird Atlas coordinator. Festival of Birds

Detroit Lakes' 12th annual Festival of Birds continues, with registration from 5 to 6 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. at Minnesota State Community & Technical College-DL. Please register before heading out on the field trip of your choice. All trips depart from the M-State parking lot. The evening presentation, "Shorebird Migrations: Saving the Stopovers," will be held at the Lodge on Lake Detroit starting at 5:30 p.m., and features Bob Russell of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. 'My Minnesota'

As a field representative for the Minnesota Historical Society, David Nystuen spent his career traveling the state of Minnesota helping local and county historical societies and museums. His lecture and slide presentation, "My Minnesota," will feature a few of the many fascinating stories he collected. Come join him at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15 for an exhilarating evening of stories and facts about Minnesota.  The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the ITOW Veterans Museum, 805 West Main, Perham. A Center for the Arts in Fergus Falls will be holding auditions for its summer production of the musical "The Sound of Music" at 5 p.m. Friday, May 15 in the Historic Fergus Theatre, 124 W. Detroit Lakes' 12th annual Festival of Birds continues, with registration from 5 to 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Minnesota State Community & Technical College-DL. 'My Minnesota'

The Becker County Historical Society is excited to bring David Nystuen's "My Minnesota" to Detroit Lakes on Saturday, May 16. Sponsored in part by Community Development Insurance Services, Noah Insurance Service and Friends of the Museum; this presentation will be held at the Becker County Museum, 714 Summit Ave., starting at 10 a.m. Featured speaker David Nystuen has spent his career traveling Minnesota as a field representative for the Minnesota Historical Society. The final day of the 12th annual Festival of Birds will feature a pair of all-day field trips. The day begins with registration at Minnesota State Community & Technical College from 5 to 6 a.m. The trips will depart from the M-State parking lot at 5:15 and 5:30 a.m., returning by 3 p.m. Please note that the college will be closed upon your return, as these trips conclude the festival's activities.
