Final band concert is Thursday
The Detroit Lakes Middle School Bands will present their final concert of the school year in their Spring Band Concert on Thursday, April 30. The sixth, seventh and eighth grade bands will perform.
The bands will be performing quite a variety of music highlights including marches -- both traditional and contemporary -- overtures, slow tunes, popular and rock selections from the 1960s and '70s, programmatic and original contemporary band compositions.
Leading off the program will be the sixth grade band. The selections include "Spania," Copper Mountain Legend," Woodland Hills," "Smoke on the Water" and "Can-Can."
Next to perform will be the seventh grade band. Their pieces include "Unity March," "Tribal Quest," "Korean Folk Song Medley," "That Thing You Do" and "Verocity."
Closing out the performance is the eighth grade band. They will open up with a traditional march in "The Guardian Concert March," "Flight of the Pegasus," "Quad City Stomp" and "George of the Jungle."
All the bands are under the direction of Paul Dierkhising.
The performances will be in the George Simson Middle School auditorium and will begin at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome and invited to attend. There is no admission charge.
