Fire heavily damages downtown Fosston businesses, apartments
FOSSTON, Minn. - A late-night fire Sunday heavily damaged a building here that houses Fosston Chiropractic Clinic and two residential apartments.
The fire alarm sounded at about 10:35 p.m. Sunday, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.
When Fosston Fire Department arrived a short time later, the upper portions of the brick building were engulfed in flames, according to the report.
The roof of the building collapsed onto the second floor of the building, according to Fosston Fire Chief Jim Aagenes. All residents of the three apartments were reported to be accounted for and safe this morning.
Erskine and McIntosh fire departments also were on the scene, as were First Care Ambulance Service and Minnesota State Patrol.
Heavy smoke and water damage was reported in Fosston Chiropractic Clinic, which occupies the main floor, as well as two adjacent businesses, an insurance agency and a barber shop, according to Fosston Fire Department.
Firefighters were continuing to mop up operations this morning.
The fire is under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff's Department, with the assistance of the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.
Fosston is a city of about 1,500 people in Polk County about 45 miles west of Bemidji.
