The sawmill is located on County Highway 50, two miles east of Deer Creek in Otter Tail County.

Otter Tail County Deputy Sheriff Brian Eichers was at the scene of the fire, which was eight miles southwest of Wadena. He said Mast had started a wood stove, and believes a problem in the chimney started the fire.

Firefighters from Deer Creek and Wadena responded to the scene, along with personnel from the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department and Tri-County Health Care.
